Sessional External Moderators for Health Science Programs

About the role

The Western Cape College of Nursing is seeking qualified nursing professionals to serve as sessional external moderators for all programmes offered. Moderators will ensure assessment quality and compliance across a range of nursing and midwifery qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Moderate clinical and theoretical assessments in line with the WCCN moderation policy.
• Moderate set assessments and marked scripts, providing written feedback to heads of departments.
• Perform quality assurance on all assessment strategies and maintain moderation records.
• Collaborate with subject coordinators to ensure consistency of assessment standards.
• Provide feedback on assessment practices and support continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements of the South African Nursing Council.

Required profile

• Relevant nursing qualification (Higher Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor, Advanced Diploma, or Postgraduate Diploma) as listed in the advertisement.
• Post‑basic diploma or degree in Nursing Education and Management.
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Moderator and Assessor.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a registered nurse; senior posts may require up to 14 years, including experience as a nurse educator.
• A relevant Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing for advanced programmes.
• Specialist qualification in the specific area of specialization for postgraduate diploma posts.
