Senior Lecturer – Risk Management & Finance

About the role

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at North-West University is seeking a Senior Lecturer to strengthen its teaching and research capacity in Risk Management, Finance and related disciplines. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community and contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality lectures, tutorials and practical sessions in risk management, banking, finance and investment management.
• Develop and update module content, integrating quantitative tools such as R and Python.
• Supervise Master's students to successful completion and support their research projects.
• Conduct and publish peer‑reviewed research in accredited journals.
• Engage with professional bodies and contribute to community outreach initiatives.

Required profile

• PhD (NQF Level 10) in Risk Management, Finance or a closely related field.
• Minimum three years of teaching, learning and research experience in the relevant areas.
• Demonstrated record of supervising at least one Master's thesis to completion.
• Publication of at least two peer‑reviewed journal articles.
• Membership of professional bodies (e.g., GARP, PRMIA, CFA Society South Africa) is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Strong programming skills in R and Python for data analysis and statistical modelling.
• Knowledge of quantitative research methods, statistical analysis and data visualisation.
• Understanding of banking risk management, prudential regulation and Basel II/III frameworks.
