Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Psychology

About the role

North-West University’s Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking an experienced academic to join the School of Psychosocial Health as a Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Psychology. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervise research, and engage in community‑focused activities.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and develop teaching programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students, including preparation of study material, facilitation of contact sessions, and assessment moderation.
• Supervise master’s and doctoral research projects, examine theses, and contribute to the university’s research output through publications.
• Maintain active involvement in community service and industry collaborations to ensure social responsiveness of the discipline.
• Participate in school committees, academic leadership, and administrative duties as required.

Required profile

• PhD in Clinical Psychology (NQF level 10) and registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the HPCSA.
• Minimum five years of clinical practice, supervision or managerial experience; for senior lecturer level, at least three years of university teaching experience.
• Demonstrated scholarly record – at least one peer‑reviewed article per year for associate professor, or two articles for senior lecturer.
• Experience supervising master’s students to completion and involvement in PhD supervision (associate professor).

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and PowerPoint for curriculum development and presentation.
• Competence in data analysis software for research purposes.
• Ability to use e‑media tools for teaching and communication.
