Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor – Clinical Psychology

About the role

North-West University is seeking an Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology to strengthen its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, practice supervision, and research supervision within the School of Psychosocial Health.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and develop teaching material for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including contact sessions, assessments and moderation.
• Supervise master’s and PhD students, assess dissertations, and contribute to research projects.
• Maintain an active research agenda with publications in accredited scholarly journals.
• Engage with community service and industry partners to ensure social responsiveness.
• Participate in school committees and academic governance.

Required profile

• PhD in Clinical Psychology (NQF level 10) and registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the HPCSA.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical practice, supervision or managerial experience (associate professor) or 3 years for senior lecturer.
• Proven teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Publication record of at least one article per year (associate professor) or two articles overall (senior lecturer).
• Experience supervising master’s students to completion and involvement in PhD supervision.

Required skills

• Evidence‑based approach to clinical psychology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Competence with data analysis software.
• Ability to use e‑media tools for teaching and communication.
