Senior Java Backend Engineer – High‑Volume Transaction Systems

About the role

Our client is looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join a high‑performing technology team in Cape Town. You will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining critical backend services that support high‑volume, real‑time transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop robust Java and Spring Boot services.
• Drive performance, reliability and scalability of transaction‑processing systems.
• Build secure, well‑documented RESTful APIs and modernise legacy platforms.
• Collaborate with the squad to make architectural decisions and champion best engineering practices.
• Mentor junior teammates and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 7 years of backend software engineering experience.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Proven experience building scalable, high‑performance backend systems.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design and event‑driven architectures.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and software delivery best practices.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering or a related field.
