Senior HR Business Partner – Projects (Construction)

About the role

The Senior HR Business Partner – Projects (Construction) will lead and deliver the full spectrum of strategic and operational HR services for large‑scale construction projects. Reporting to senior management, the role acts as a trusted business partner, ensuring compliance with labour legislation, immigration requirements and corporate governance while supporting project objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business and project goals.
• Partner with project management on workforce planning, organisational effectiveness and mobilisation.
• Design, maintain and continuously improve HR governance frameworks, policies, procedures and SOPs.
• Conduct HR governance audits and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Create manpower plans, coordinate recruitment and selection, and ensure compliance with Employment Equity requirements.
• Manage succession planning, mobilisation and demobilisation of project personnel.
• Oversee Employment Equity compliance, develop transformation plans and submit statutory reports.
• Develop project training strategies, manage Workplace Skills Plans and Annual Training Reports, and liaise with SETAs.
• Implement performance management systems, coach managers and monitor KPI achievement.
• Ensure payroll processes meet statutory and project requirements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as an HR Business Partner in large‑scale construction or engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of South African labour legislation, Employment Equity Act and immigration regulations.
• Proven ability to develop HR strategies, governance frameworks and workforce plans.
• Experience in recruitment, succession planning, skills development and performance management.
• Excellent stakeholder management and advisory skills.
