About the role
The National Organiser – Social Development will provide strategic coordination and research on sectoral organising and collective bargaining, supporting the union’s key strategic priorities.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate implementation of organising and collective bargaining policies and strategies for the designated sector, and produce monthly reports.
- Establish functional union structures, sub‑structures and sub‑committees to ensure high standards of service and member representation.
- Collaborate with the Education Service Centre to design and deliver training for shop stewards and sector‑specific needs.
- Work with the Policy Development Unit to monitor legislation affecting the sector and ensure timely union responses.
- Maintain relationships with employers, government departments, alliance structures and other organisations on matters affecting members.
- Partner with the Researcher – OCB to conduct research relevant to collective bargaining, organising and policy development.
- Support organisers at all levels to enhance the union’s political and organisational profile.
- Monitor legislation and government policies to advise union leadership and structures.
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies and campaigns.
- Analyse regional and provincial organisers’ reports, identify intervention areas and provide support.
- Build capacity of negotiating teams on bargaining, policies and transformation issues.
Required profile
- Matriculation with computer literacy; a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is an advantage.
- Three to five years of experience in a union environment.
- Strong written communication and negotiation abilities.
- Fluent linguistic skills and good listening capability.
- Demonstrated strong character, diplomacy and professionalism.
