Senior Finance Manager - Technology & Digital

About the role

Absa is looking for a Senior Finance Manager for its Business Banking Technology & Digital function in Sandton. The role provides strategic financial leadership and commercial challenge to the function, ensuring technology expenditure, investments and architecture decisions deliver measurable business value. It covers end-to-end financial oversight of technology run costs, infrastructure, cloud, applications, software and licensing, vendors and strategic change.

Key responsibilities

• Own financial planning, forecasting and performance management for the Technology portfolio, with clear views of run versus change expenditure and cost drivers
• Develop TCO and unit-cost perspectives, and identify structural cost optimisation opportunities
• Partner with Technology executives on investment prioritisation and business cases, evaluating NPV, IRR, payback and benefits realisation
• Challenge cloud consumption, consumption-based pricing, tagging and allocation, and cloud migration decisions
• Integrate run costs, infrastructure, licences, vendor spend and change investment to assess full economic cost of applications and platforms
• Challenge technology contracts, software licensing, SaaS, outsourcing and professional services, and assess long-term TCO of vendor choices
• Link technology spend to performance, customer outcomes and financial value
• Build decision-quality reporting in Power BI and advanced Excel, with executive dashboards and scenario modelling
• Act as a credible financial adviser to the BB CIO and Technology leadership, translating technical discussions into financial and commercial implications

Required profile

• Postgraduate degree in Financial Sciences (required)
• Strong understanding of FP&A, budgeting and forecasting, business-case development, investment appraisal and TCO modelling
• Experience of Capex/Opex and capitalisation, and of commercial/vendor analysis
• Strongly preferred: knowledge of TBM, FinOps, cloud economics, software and licensing economics, vendor management, APIs, SaaS, databases, compute, cloud vs on-premise architecture, cybersecurity, AI and automation economics, and application rationalisation
