Head Investor Services - CIB Transactional Banking

About the role

Absa is looking for a Custody and Investor Services leader to head the Custody and Investor Services business within its Corporate and Investment Banking division. You will lead the business, set its strategic direction and take accountability for its financial and operational performance, covering clients, industry engagement, operations, service delivery, products and sales. The role suits a custody and trustee business leader with technical depth and experience managing large banking profit and loss portfolios.

Key responsibilities

• Operational Excellence: run efficient, high-throughput custody operations across equities, bonds, money markets and corporate actions, plus trustee services covering fund accounting and mandate compliance, and deliver a consistent custody proposition for domestic, regional and global clients.
• Performance Management: use performance scorecards to set direction and act on negative trends, coach and develop colleagues, build key talent and engage senior stakeholders.
• Product Management: shape an insights-led product proposition, own its long-term commercial viability including distribution and middle- and back-office capabilities, drive revenue and efficiency programmes, and lead product excellence and innovation.
• Product Leadership: lead product management across design, development and go-to-market execution, overseeing viable propositions through the product life cycle.
• Control: maintain a robust, compliant control environment that balances risk appetite and customer demand with growth ambitions and CIB's financial and balance sheet objectives.

Required profile

• Relevant bachelor's degree; a postgraduate degree is advantageous.
• 15 years of technical experience and more than 5 years of people management experience.
• Experience in product management and product development, with a thorough understanding of market instruments and the custody and trustee business.
• Experience managing large profit and loss portfolios in a banking environment.
