Senior Architectural Technologist

About the role

dhk Architects, one of the largest and leading architectural studios in Africa, is looking for a Senior Architectural Technologist in Johannesburg to lead the technical execution of architectural projects. The role translates conceptual design into high-quality technical documentation, working with design architects and consultants to uphold the studio's standards. You will oversee detailed construction drawings, coordinate across disciplines and ensure design intent is maintained through all project phases.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret design intent and translate it into precise construction documentation.
• Produce accurate, detailed architectural and technical drawings using Revit.
• Ensure documentation aligns with building regulations, codes and company standards.
• Liaise with consultants, contractors and municipal authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
• Evaluate materials and construction methods to optimise design solutions.
• Coordinate technical input across multidisciplinary teams.
• Support project planning, costing and documentation delivery.

Required profile

• National Diploma or BTech in Architectural Technology.
• Minimum 8 years' post-qualification experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in producing and managing technical documentation.
• Solid knowledge of building systems, regulations and construction methodologies.
• Experience interacting with local authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Track record of contributing to complex project delivery from design to construction.
• Fluency in English; must be legally eligible to work in South Africa.
• Willingness to travel if project requirements demand it.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in Revit (an assessment will be required if shortlisted).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technical coordination tools.
• Understanding of technical detailing, documentation standards and code compliance.
• Experience in BIM workflows, collaboration techniques and digital modelling.
• Advantageous: additional capabilities in façade design, sustainability certifications such as Green Star, or 3D modelling.
