Senior Administration Officer – Occupational Health & Safety

About the role

The Senior Administration Officer (OHS) will lead occupational health and safety administration across the department, ensuring compliance with legislation and internal policies. This permanent position involves coordinating audits, risk mitigation, training and reporting to improve workplace safety.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct safety audits and compile OHS statistics.
• Implement SHERQ activities and integrate the EHWP framework.
• Facilitate hazard identification, risk mitigation and monitor corrective actions.
• Promote ergonomics, fire prevention, evacuation procedures and medical surveillance standards.
• Lead incident investigations, monitor non‑compliance and report to stakeholders.
• Coordinate safety training and awareness programmes.
• Develop quarterly reports on fatalities, serious injuries and related incidents.
• Interpret external audit recommendations and ensure departmental OHS compliance.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus a National Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Hygiene, Safety Management or a related field.
• 2–3 years of functional experience in occupational health and safety, including knowledge of OHS legislation and compensation acts.
