Clinical Coder

About the role

Mediclinic Southern Africa Corporate Office in Stellenbosch is hiring one Clinical Coder on a permanent basis, working remotely. The purpose of the role is to ensure high-quality clinical data with high integrity that can be used for both clinical and financial management.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct procedural coding in line with coding rules, conventions, standards and guidelines.
• Conduct diagnostic coding in line with coding rules, conventions, standards and guidelines.
• Take part in quality enhancement and efficiency initiatives that improve the quality of coding and the department's output.
• Liaise with the Coding Centre leadership on the quality of clinical information received.

Required profile

• Clinical coding qualification (essential).
• Clinical coding experience (essential).
• Desired: anatomy and physiology training, and experience in a private healthcare facility or theatre, and medical aid scheme coding.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ICD-10, CSSA and SADA rules and guidelines, and the ability to apply them in the workplace.
• Familiarity with coding systems such as ICD-10 books, the latest CCSA coding books, the clinical coding system (encoder), the South African Coding Master Industry Table (MIT) and patient administrative systems.
• Understanding of professional conduct, communication and teamwork.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
