Senior Accountant: Financial Reporting

About the role

Mmabana, within the Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation of the North West Provincial Government, is appointing a Senior Accountant for financial reporting at its Mmabana head office. The post is on a permanent contract, level 8, with a stated remuneration of R440 145.12 per annum excluding benefits. The purpose of the post is to prepare accurate and timely financial reports, maintain reliable accounting records and support statutory reporting, audit readiness and effective financial control.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with quarterly and annual financial statements, schedules and working papers.
• Review reconciliations and investigate reconciling items.
• Process and verify journals, corrections and accounting entries.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
• Analyse expenditure, revenue, assets, liabilities and budget variances.
• Support audits, month-end and year-end closure and corrective actions.

Required profile

• Recognised diploma at NQF level 6 or equivalent qualification in financial accounting.
• At least three years' relevant experience in financial accounting or reporting.
• Completed SAICA articles will be an advantage.
• A valid driver's licence is an added advantage.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of GRAP, the PFMA, Treasury Regulations and applicable financial procedures.
• Proficiency in financial systems, spreadsheets, reconciliations, CaseWare and report preparation.
• Core competencies include accounting and numerical ability, analytical thinking, accuracy, planning, problem-solving, report writing, communication, teamwork, integrity and deadline management.
