Sample Preparation Operator (Geochemistry)

About the role

SGS, a global testing, inspection and certification company, is hiring a full-time Operator - Sample Prep in its geochemistry laboratory. The role covers weighing, drying, crushing, milling and screening of samples according to the relevant competence modules, with a focus on meeting customer turnaround commitments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform weighing, drying, crushing, milling and screening exactly as specified in the relevant competence modules.
• Ensure punctuality and meet customer turnaround time commitments.
• Report daily production figures to the supervisor and give honest explanations for targets not met.
• Follow the supervisor's detailed instructions and show flexibility in carrying out duties.
• Keep work areas and the surrounding environment clean.
• Comply with the company's QHSE policy and quality and safety requirements.
• Assist with maintenance of laboratory instruments and apparatus.
• Work overtime or flexible hours when necessary and assist with monthly stock counts.
• Perform other reasonable tasks assigned by the direct line manager.

Required profile

• Matric with Mathematics and Science.
• At least 3 years of experience in the relevant discipline.
• Ability to speak, write and understand English.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of the LIMS system.
• Knowledge of ISO 17025 and SANAS quality management systems.
• Weighing, drying, crushing, splitting, screening and milling.
