Room Attendant - Cape Grace, Cape Town

About the role

Cape Grace, a Fairmont managed hotel in Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, is hiring a Room Attendant. Reporting to Housekeeping Management, the Room Attendant ensures the highest level of cleanliness in guestrooms while providing day cleans and nightly turndown service. The hotel has 113 keys and is recognised as a benchmark of intimate five-star luxury.

Key responsibilities

• Sign in and out master keys daily and maintain proper use of cleaning supplies and equipment
• Update and mark rooms on the assignment paper, keep linen and supply closets organised, and empty the vacuum when nearly full
• Report problems, lost-and-found items, equipment malfunctions, suspicious persons and health and safety hazards to the Floor Supervisor or Housekeeping office
• Use the "Cleaning in Progress" sign, keep doors closed while making up rooms, and call in-room dining for tray removal
• Follow department policies, attend pre-shift briefings and proposed trainings, and be ready for other duties as requested
• Early shift: report rooms needing no service, privacy requests and unslept-in rooms by 14:00, and report mattresses, blankets and bedspreads needing change
• Turndown: tidy occupied rooms (dusting, arranging belongings, making beds, removing soiled linen, vacuuming and bathroom cleaning where needed), replenish supplies and report rooms needing no service by 20:30

Required profile

• Work experience in a 5-star environment is preferable
• Basic understanding of and writing in English
• Ability to lift, carry or pull heavy objects and to perform the same task daily
