Robotics & Software Engineer – AGV and Autonomous Systems

About the role

BATTALION is looking for a Robotics / Software Engineer to join our team in Pinetown, KwaZulu‑Natal. You will develop, integrate and troubleshoot software that powers our autonomous mobile robots and AGV systems, working closely with hardware, sensors and industrial communication devices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain software for AGVs and autonomous robotic platforms.
• Integrate software with sensors, motor controllers, PLCs, I/O modules and CANbus devices.
• Work with ROS2, Linux‑based controllers, Ethernet and related networking technologies.
• Troubleshoot real‑world issues on physical machines and determine whether they are software, hardware, communication or control related.
• Support testing, commissioning and continuous improvement of robotic systems.
• Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical and automation engineering teams.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving ability and enjoyment of working at the intersection of software, electronics and robotics.
• Willingness to work hands‑on with machines, not only from a desk.
• Ability to diagnose issues across software, hardware, communication, sensor and control domains.
• Interest or experience in robotics, automation, embedded systems or mechatronics.
