Rigger & Ropes Specialist

About the role

The Rigger & Ropes Specialist will support construction and shaft operations by planning, executing and inspecting rigging activities. The role involves ensuring safe lifting, scaffold erection and material handling in compliance with health and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to mechanical breakdown call‑outs and design basic mechanical components.
• Plan, organise and control erection, alteration, repositioning and dismantling of load‑bearing scaffolding.
• Determine lifting and moving requirements, select appropriate rigging equipment and calculate safe working loads.
• Splice cables to standard specifications, prevent fraying and manage thimble installations.
• Erect, alter and dismantle access structures and load‑bearing systems.
• Conduct routine inspections of elevators and operate man‑lift carriages for work at height.
• Transport materials and equipment within shafts and replace conveyances as needed.

Required profile

• Grade 12/STD 10 with Mathematics.
• Relevant trade certificate or NTC 2 specialised course.
• 1–3 years of experience in rigging, scaffold erection or related field.
• Knowledge of basic health and safety principles and safe working loads.
• Understanding of planning rigging operations and regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with specialised rigging equipment such as spreader beams.
• Awareness of signalling arrangements, safety devices and customer service.
