Rewinderman – Paper Rewinding Machine Operator

About the role

Sappi is seeking a Rewinderman to operate and maintain the Mason Scott / No.2 Jagenberg rewinding machines. The role ensures efficient production of paper reels to customer specifications while upholding safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect equipment and report defects to the supervisor.
• Prepare the machine for start‑up and read the Master Production Schedule.
• Order paper reels and cores, load reels onto the hydraulic backstand, and feed paper at crawl speed.
• Operate the Mason Scott/Jagenberg to cut and wind paper, monitoring quality, tension, trim, and any defects.
• Eject completed reels, measure width and diameter for accuracy, and assist with shaft removal.
• Troubleshoot machine issues with the supervisor and plan tasks to minimise downtime.

Required profile

• Grade 12 and/or NQF Level 4 qualification.
• At least 18 months of plant operations experience.

Required skills

• Mason Scott/Jagenberg machine operation.
• Hydraulic backstand handling.
• Paper reel handling and measurement.
• Machine troubleshooting and problem‑solving.
