Resources & Energy Sector Analyst (Coverage Analyst)

About the role

Absa is hiring a Resources & Energy Sector Analyst (Coverage Analyst) in Sandton. The role supports Coverage Bankers in managing client relationships by providing financial analysis, client insights, deal support and coordination across product teams, driving revenue growth and delivering integrated banking solutions across the resources and energy industries.

Key responsibilities

• Client coverage support: prepare client briefs, pitch materials and account plans; track client activity, opportunities and pipeline; understand client strategies, industries and financial performance
• Financial analysis: analyse income statements, balance sheets and cash flows; build and maintain financial models and forecasts; perform credit analysis, risk assessments and profitability analysis
• Deal and transaction support: assist with lending, advisory and capital markets transactions; coordinate Risk, Legal and Product teams; prepare documentation for credit committee approvals and due diligence
• Regulatory and compliance support: ensure KYC/AML and internal risk and compliance policies are followed, and assist with regulatory submissions and audits
• Product coordination: work with Corporate Finance, Transaction Banking, Markets and Treasury to structure integrated solutions and support cross-sell initiatives
• Research: conduct industry and competitor analysis, monitor macroeconomic trends and produce insight reports and sector updates

Required profile

• Post-graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics or a related field
• 1-3 years of experience at analyst level
• Preferred: CFA (or studying toward it) or CA(SA) or equivalent
• Prior exposure to banking, finance or a corporate environment is advantageous; knowledge of the resources and energy sectors is also advantageous
