Research Radiologist

About the role

The Central Analytical Facilities of Stellenbosch University is seeking a specialist radiologist to join the NII PET-CT Unit at Tygerberg Hospital, Cape Town. The role combines research-focused image analysis, clinical reporting, and collaboration with national and international imaging networks.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quantitative analysis of PET-CT, SPECT-CT and other multimodal imaging studies for research projects.
• Extract and report imaging biomarkers according to study protocols and complete clinical research documentation.
• Apply standardized response criteria such as RECIST to trial imaging data.
• Develop, refine and validate imaging protocols and workflows to enhance the unit’s research impact.
• Collaborate with nuclear physicians and radiology teams for clinical interpretation of imaging studies.
• Contribute to planning of imaging services that align with national research priorities.

Required profile

• Board-certified radiologist with experience in PET-CT and SPECT-CT imaging.
• Demonstrated expertise in quantitative imaging analysis and multimodality reporting.
• Experience working in a research environment or academic medical centre.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
