Registered Nurse – PB Qualified – Theatre OR

About the role

Ethekwini Hospital and Heart Centre is recruiting a Registered Nurse qualified at post-basic level for its Theatre Operating Room (OR). The nurse provides safe, cost-effective patient care in line with hospital standards and policies, delivering direct and/or indirect nursing care and overseeing the assessment, planning, execution and supervision of care.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver patient care in line with the scope of practice and take full responsibility for it
• Contribute to the holistic care of patients
• Attend shift handovers and communicate clearly with patients about their care
• Promote patient health and wellbeing, and maintain good relations with patients, relatives and visitors
• Audit health records to ensure compliance
• Ensure stock is well controlled, managed, charged and credited correctly

Required profile

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse or Midwife, or an equivalent NQF 7 qualification (post-basic diploma)
• Relevant qualification and 2 years' experience in the specialist area of theatre
• Previous experience in a theatre operating environment is essential
• Ability to work flexible hours and shifts
• Capacity to uphold health practice standards required by accredited bodies and health legislation
