Registered Nurse - Paediatric ICU

About the role

A vacancy exists for a Registered Nurse qualified in ICU in the Paediatric ICU unit at Life Wilgers Hospital in Pretoria. The position reports to the Unit Manager and contributes to the effective functioning of the unit while ensuring quality nursing care for all patients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide quality basic and specialized nursing care, communicate continuously with patients and families about their condition, and administer medication in line with ethical and legal frameworks.
• Review and comply with internal policies and protocols, and ensure quality management systems run according to unit specifications.
• Advocate for patients by encouraging acuity to case management and notifying doctors of any limitations.
• Work with a multi-disciplinary team and provide training and development for staff.
• Manage staff and stock costs by evaluating labour hours and minimizing unnecessary stock wastage and equipment maintenance issues.
• Ensure staff complete department-specific micro orientations, conduct daily care rounds and investigate complaints.
• Give accurate information to patients and families during hospitalization.
• Monitor and implement preventative measures for risk management, infection control and SHEQ compliance, including ISO requirements, and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Nursing, or a Diploma in Midwifery.
• At least 3 years of experience in an ICU environment; paediatric ICU experience is advantageous.
• Current registration with the relevant professional or regulatory body.
• Driver's licence and ability to travel.
