Registered Nurse – ICU

About the role

Melomed is seeking experienced Registered Nurses to join its Intensive Care Units across Mitchell's Plain, Bellville and Gatesville. The role involves delivering high‑quality critical care to patients in a fast‑paced hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to ICU patients, including monitoring, medication administration and wound management.
• Operate and manage ventilators and other critical care equipment.
• Supervise and orient junior staff and nursing students, conducting teaching rounds.
• Maintain accurate patient records and contribute to multidisciplinary care plans.
• Participate in in‑service training, present talks and adhere to hospital policies and infection‑prevention protocols.

Required profile

• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• 2–3 years of proven ICU experience.
• Post‑basic qualification in Critical Care (advantageous).
• Flexibility to work shifts, overtime and assist in other departments when needed.

Required skills

• Ventilator competency.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Oral medication administration.
• Wound care expertise.
• Infection prevention knowledge.
• Patient assessment and nursing care planning.
• Safe medication management.
