Registered Engineer – Water & Wastewater Treatment

About the role

Bigen's Water Directorate is expanding its specialist treatment team and seeks a Registered Engineer with a passion for water and wastewater treatment. You will join a multidisciplinary group delivering some of Southern Africa's most technically challenging projects, from potable water works to advanced reuse schemes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Conduct process evaluations and hydraulic assessments.
• Prepare design reports, specifications, and tender documentation.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and support construction, commissioning, and optimisation activities.
• Engage with clients and regulatory authorities.
• Mentor junior engineers.

Required profile

• BEng/BSc in Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSAM.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant consulting engineering experience.
• Experience in water and/or wastewater treatment design.

Required skills

• Process design and optimisation.
• Hydraulic profiling.
• Process modelling (e.g., BioWin or similar).
• Treatment process selection.
• Design of treatment structures.
• Energy optimisation.
• Mechanical and electrical coordination.
• Commissioning and performance testing.
