Job description

About the role

The Quality Technician will be responsible for calibrating, verifying and maintaining a wide range of gauges, measuring instruments and inspection equipment. You will ensure full traceability, accurate records and compliance with ISO standards while supporting continuous improvement in the laboratory.

Key responsibilities

  • Calibrate, verify and maintain gauges, scales, setting pieces and other inspection tools according to approved procedures and recognised standards.
  • Maintain complete traceability and accurate calibration records for all measuring equipment.
  • Manage the calibration programme, reducing overdue gauges through effective tracking and monitoring.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and GD&T requirements.
  • Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies and measurement‑uncertainty evaluations.
  • Prepare inspection reports, calibration certificates and quality dossiers.
  • Support ISO/IEC 17025 compliance and ISO 9001:2015 quality management requirements.
  • Train production and quality personnel on proper use, handling and verification of measuring equipment.
  • Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives for measuring methods, equipment and laboratory systems.

Required profile

  • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Mechatronics, Metallurgical or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in metrology, quality or precision manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 and ISO/IEC 17025 standards (advantageous).
  • Strong problem‑solving, customer liaison and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, shift work as required.

  • Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R).
  • Measurement‑uncertainty evaluation.
  • Dimensional metrology.
  • MS Office – Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
