Qualified Engineer – Water & Wastewater Projects

About the role

We are looking for qualified engineers to join Bigen’s Water Directorate in Cape Town, working on innovative water, wastewater and smart‑water infrastructure projects across Southern Africa. The role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, from feasibility studies through design, construction support and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Develop process and hydraulic designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Plan and assess treatment plant concepts, perform technical calculations and produce detailed reports, drawings and specifications.
• Select and specify mechanical equipment, and integrate mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control systems.
• Carry out hydraulic and process modelling, equipment sizing and optimisation.
• Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT), construction, commissioning and performance testing.
• Investigate and optimise existing treatment plants and engage with clients in technical coordination meetings.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Civil, Chemical, Environmental or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent).
• 0–5 years of relevant engineering experience.
• Professional registration with ECSA or active progression towards registration is advantageous.
• Strong interest in water and wastewater treatment, automation and sustainable infrastructure.
