Professor of Statistics

About the role

North-West University’s Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences is looking for an experienced academic to fill a permanent Professor position in Statistics. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, develop new courses, and lead research activities within the School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules.
• Design and develop new statistics courses and programmes.
• Conduct high‑quality research and publish in accredited national and international journals.
• Supervise and co‑supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students.
• Provide mentorship to junior staff and contribute to departmental administration.

Required profile

• PhD (NQF Level 10) in Mathematical Statistics.
• At least seven years experience managing large class groups.
• Minimum ten years teaching undergraduate and postgraduate statistics.
• Proven record of at least seven peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience supervising Masters and PhD candidates.
• Membership of the South African Statistical Association is an advantage.

Required skills

• Ability to present and coordinate statistics modules for large cohorts.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English.
• Advanced data analysis using SAS, R, SPSS and STATISTICA.
• Guidance on data collection and statistical methodology.
