Professor of English Linguistics and Applied Linguistics

About the role

The Faculty of Humanities at North-West University seeks a Full Professor in English Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. The incumbent will teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, lead research initiatives, and engage with community projects across the School of Languages.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and coordinate English Linguistics and Applied Linguistics courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
• Supervise Master’s and PhD candidates, including assessment and mentorship.
• Develop and review curricula, set examinations, and manage module administration.
• Contribute to the School’s research output through publications in accredited journals and presentations at national and international conferences.
• Participate in community engagement activities and uphold occupational health and safety standards.

Required profile

• PhD (NQF level 10) in English Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.
• At least seven years of university‑level teaching experience, covering sociolinguistics, applied language studies, and grammatical analysis.
• Proven record of research publications and conference presentations appropriate for a Full Professor.
• Experience supervising postgraduate research and involvement in community outreach projects.
