Professor / Associate Professor – School of Nursing

About the role

The University of the Western Cape’s School of Nursing is seeking a senior academic leader to join its faculty as a Professor or Associate Professor. The role involves teaching, research, and strategic leadership within a vibrant community of over 700 undergraduate and 250 postgraduate students.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and coordinate undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in nursing programmes.
• Conduct high‑quality research, publish in reputable journals, and secure external funding.
• Supervise PhD and Master’s candidates, ensuring successful completion.
• Lead curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
• Engage with community partners and oversee outreach initiatives.
• Provide academic leadership, manage a division, and contribute to faculty administration.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent) in Nursing or a closely related field.
• 10–15 years of sustained teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
• At least 25 accredited, discipline‑recognised publications.
• Supervision of a minimum of 2 PhD theses and 7 Master’s theses (majority as primary supervisor).
• National and international standing in the discipline, with a record of research grant success.
• NRF rating or comparable scholarly recognition (e.g., academy election, editorial leadership, international award).
• Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a professional nurse, midwife, community health nurse, or psychiatric nurse.
