Professional Nurse – Orthopaedic Unit

About the role

The Professional Nurse will work within an orthopaedic unit, collaborating with a multi‑professional team to deliver safe, comprehensive, and high‑quality nursing care. The role includes leading and coordinating nursing staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver quality nursing care in partnership with a multi‑professional team.
• Identify, prevent, and manage risks to ensure patient safety.
• Facilitate a positive client experience by creating a conducive environment.
• Provide accurate and comprehensive records of all nursing interventions.
• Create a learning environment that builds staff competence.
• Ensure all utilised stock and equipment are accurately charted.

Required profile

• Diploma leading to registration as a General Nurse OR a 4‑year Nursing Diploma/Bachelor of Nursing.
• Postgraduate Advanced Diploma in Midwifery (desired).
• Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Care, Peri‑operative Nursing) for specialist units (desired).
• Essential minimum experience: None.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support training (ACLS, ATLS, PALS) for specialised wards.
• Computer literacy – Microsoft Office.
• Development and modification of nursing care plans.
• Infection prevention and control.
• Nursing processes, procedures and record keeping.
• Patient assessment skills.
• Pharmacology knowledge.
• Understanding of relevant nursing legislation and risk identification.
• Application of scientific nursing principles.
