Professional Engineer / Technologist – Road Design & Project Management

About the role

The Professional Engineer or Technologist will lead project management, pavement design and geometric design for road projects within SMEC's Construction & Pavements division. Reporting to the Section Manager, the role supports senior staff and consultants to deliver multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Utilise Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley Open Roads to produce design deliverables with minimal supervision.
• Organise information and communicate design intent through CAD drawings and software outputs.
• Understand design processes and translate them into accurate project deliverables.
• Take ownership of work, ensuring timely and cost‑effective completion.
• Train technicians and junior staff on relevant software tools.
• Supervise and review the work of team members to maintain quality.
• Draft technical reports and present technical findings to stakeholders.
• Assist in bid preparation and develop commercial awareness of project management.
• Maintain regular client contact under senior supervision.
• Inspect constructed works for compliance with design specifications and propose remedial actions.

Required profile

• BSc or BTech degree from an accredited university or college.
• Professional registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Technologist (Pr Tech).
• Clear understanding of local business technologies and market context.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Proficiency in Bentley Open Roads.
• Strong CAD drafting and drawing skills.
