Procurement Officer – Indirect Materials & Services

About the role

The Procurement Officer will lead the sourcing of indirect materials, services, CAPEX and local co‑formulants for UPL’s South African operations. Reporting to the Head of Procurement, Africa, the role supports the broader supply‑chain strategy by ensuring the right goods and services are obtained at the right price, time and quality.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end procurement for indirect materials, services, CAPEX and co‑formulants, adhering to UPL’s procurement framework and competitive bidding policies.
• Collaborate with supply planning, commercial, regulatory and manufacturing teams to align procurement actions with business needs.
• Track spend performance against budgets and report cost volatility, pricing trends and product availability to stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement of procurement processes in South Africa, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective contract management.
• Activate sourcing strategies for co‑formulants to secure consistent supply at optimal cost.

Required profile

• Proven experience in procurement or supply‑chain roles, preferably within the agriculture or manufacturing sector.
• Strong understanding of indirect material categories, service contracts and CAPEX procurement.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally and influence stakeholders across multiple departments.
• Excellent analytical and negotiation skills with a focus on cost optimisation.

Required skills

• Knowledge of competitive bidding processes and contract management.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance in raw‑material procurement.
• Understanding of supply‑chain planning, logistics and inventory management.
