Graduate Ecologist

About the role

Join AECOM’s Nature team as a Graduate Ecologist, supporting a range of high‑profile infrastructure, renewable energy and water projects across the UK while working remotely within a regional ecology team.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct desk‑based ecological studies, researching designated sites, habitats and protected species records.
• Analyse ecological survey data, including bat audio recordings, infrared and thermal imaging outputs.
• Support Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, biodiversity offsetting calculations and the preparation of Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments and protected‑species reports.
• Assist with licence applications, habitat management plans, monitoring strategies and ecological mitigation measures.
• Coordinate field surveys and collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists such as GIS, landscape architecture and engineering teams.

Required profile

• Passion for ecology and environmental conservation.
• Understanding of core ecological principles, the scientific method, mitigation hierarchy, Biodiversity Net Gain and biodiversity offsetting.
• Strong technical writing and report preparation abilities.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing priorities within project budgets.
