Port Worker

About the role

The Port Worker supports daily terminal operations by maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient working environment. Reporting to a supervisor, the role involves handling cargo, equipment, and facilities to ensure smooth port activities.

Key responsibilities

• Clean operational equipment such as crane windows, cabins, and other machinery.
• Inspect container conditions and monitor refrigerated (reefer) units.
• Open and close rail wagon twist‑locks, and load, off‑load, or slack cargo following SOPs.
• Hook, unhook, tarp, and untarp cargo where required.
• Place and remove dunnage, and keep operational areas, rail trucks, workshops, offices, and ablution facilities tidy.
• Complete required documentation, including accident reports.
• Identify and select the correct cargo‑handling equipment and gear for each task.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / NQF 04 qualification.
• Minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a port or logistics environment.
• Knowledge of terminal layout and safety stack positions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.
• Eligibility for equity preferences as outlined in the Employment Equity Plan.
