Plant Manager: Maize Seed Processing

About the role

The Maize Seed Processing Plant Manager is accountable for the end‑to‑end operation of a seed processing facility that produces certified maize seed for planting. The role ensures compliance with South African seed legislation, international export standards, and internal quality benchmarks while driving efficiency and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full processing cycle – receiving, drying, shelling, cleaning, grading, treating, packaging, storage and dispatch.
• Develop and execute seasonal production plans aligned with forecasts and seed availability.
• Monitor KPIs such as yield recovery, downtime and processing losses, and optimise plant capacity utilisation.
• Ensure compliance with seed certification standards, maintain genetic purity, germination rates and physical quality.
• Oversee seed treatment accuracy, chemical handling and export documentation.
• Implement preventive maintenance programmes, coordinate equipment calibration and support new equipment commissioning.
• Lead and develop plant teams, organise shift structures, and promote a high‑performance culture.
• Enforce health, safety and environmental regulations, aiming for a zero‑incident workplace.
• Prepare production, quality and inventory reports and collaborate with supply‑chain and commercial functions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture (or related field) as indicated.
