About the role
The Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) is looking for PhD Research Trainees with a strong interest in human and social sciences. Trainees will join interdisciplinary teams to generate policy‑relevant evidence that tackles South Africa's developmental challenges and supports social transformation.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct research across HSRC focus areas such as democracy, governance, education, public health, and sustainable development.
- Produce high‑quality evidence and knowledge that inform policy and strengthen institutions.
- Collaborate with research divisions to design, implement, and evaluate impact‑oriented studies.
- Disseminate findings through reports, publications, and stakeholder engagements.

- Strong interest in human and social sciences.
- Commitment to innovative, interdisciplinary, and policy‑relevant research.
