Pharmacy Manager

About the role

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for the pharmacy department in line with Busamed Pharmacy Division's strategic themes and those of the Hospital. The incumbent manages all pharmacy services and activities according to the policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of the Busamed Group, including providing medication and supplementary services to patients and other stakeholders in a responsible, satisfactory and cost-effective way.

Key responsibilities

• Manage pharmacy finances and understand the financial fundamentals of the healthcare business
• Manage the retail pharmacy business, optimising prescription and front-shop sales
• Oversee patient pharmaceutical care in both hospital and retail pharmacy settings
• Maintain pharmaceutical standards, quality assurance and risk management
• Communicate clearly with doctors, suppliers, internal colleagues and external peers
• Recruit urgently, with emphasis on pharmacist positions, through internal and external channels
• Plan, coordinate and present results of stock takes, and ensure stock management is recorded on the relevant software
• Coordinate staff activities, liaise with management on re-stock purchases and participate in call-out rosters
• Disburse prescriptions for in-patients and out-patients and supply and control ward stocks

Required profile

• B Pharm degree
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council
• Minimum of 3 to 4 years' experience in a similar position
• Senior or management experience in a private hospital pharmacy
• Knowledge of medical aids

• SAP knowledge
• Advanced computer skills, accuracy and attention to detail
• Financial analytical skills and sound knowledge of costs and cost containment
• Able to exercise critical judgement and anticipate complications
