People Specialist (HR) – South Africa

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic People Specialist to lead NMI’s HR function in South Africa. You will be the face of the People team locally, shaping culture, supporting leaders and ensuring compliance with South African employment legislation while working closely with our global People function.

Key responsibilities

• Shape and nurture a workplace culture aligned with NMI’s global values.
• Drive employee engagement and retention initiatives, including events, meals and local perks.
• Partner with managers to identify and mitigate employee‑relations risks and handle investigations, disciplinary actions and grievances.
• Ensure full compliance with the Labour Relations Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act and Employment Equity Act.
• Represent NMI at the CCMA and manage statutory reporting and leave administration.
• Facilitate onboarding and off‑boarding, manage benefits programs and maintain local SOPs.
• Develop and implement South‑Africa‑specific HR policies, health & safety procedures and training programs for managers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labour Law or a related field.
• 5‑7 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a multinational environment.
• Proven track record representing employers at the CCMA with successful outcomes.
• Practical knowledge of South African employment legislation and case law.
• HR certification (e.g., SABPP, CPHR SA) is preferred.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of South African labour legislation.
• Experience handling CCMA proceedings and employee‑relations cases.
• Strong understanding of HR compliance, benefits administration and policy development.
