Payroll Officer

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll Officer to join our team at Rock Processing. The role focuses on accurate and timely processing of payroll and related compensation activities, ensuring compliance with South African legislation and internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end monthly payroll and weekly payment cycles using SAGE 300 People.
• Process employee transactions such as appointments, promotions, salary changes, overtime, leave, bonuses, benefits, deductions and terminations.
• Maintain payroll system configurations, leave management rules, cost allocations and salary schedules.
• Coordinate onboarding, banking verification, payslip simulations and employee record updates.
• Administer employee benefits, including medical aid and provident fund enrolments and withdrawals.
• Conduct pre‑payroll and post‑payroll audits, reconciliations, variance reviews and exception reporting.
• Prepare salary payment files and ensure secure, timely uploads to the bank.
• Ensure compliance with PAYE, UIF, SDL, COIDA and related statutory reporting requirements.
• Generate and distribute payroll and management reports covering expenditure, headcount, leave, overtime, tax and benefits.

Required profile

• Strong attention to detail and high level of integrity.
• Ability to work under strict deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent knowledge of South African payroll legislation and statutory requirements.

Required skills

• SAGE 300 People payroll system expertise.
