Payroll Manager – Education Sector

About the role

This position offers an experienced payroll professional the chance to lead the payroll function for a fast‑growing education organisation based in Fourways, Pretoria. You will own end‑to‑end payroll processing, support a system migration, and drive continuous improvement across multiple entities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end payroll for several payroll streams, ensuring accuracy and timeliness each month.
• Supervise, mentor and support two Payroll Administrators.
• Assist with migration from VIP Payroll to Sage 300 and support system integration.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities to reduce manual effort.
• Maintain payroll records, ensure compliance with South African legislation and company policies.
• Process adjustments, deductions, leave, overtime and statutory contributions.
• Prepare payroll, reconciliation and management reports.
• Resolve payroll queries promptly and professionally.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth payroll operations across entities.

Required profile

• Relevant payroll qualification.
• 3–5 years experience as a Payroll Manager or senior payroll role within the education sector.
• Proven experience managing multiple payrolls and leading a payroll team.
• Strong knowledge of South African payroll legislation and statutory compliance.
• Experience with VIP Payroll (essential) and exposure to Sage 300 payroll implementations (advantageous).
• Excellent numerical accuracy, attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
