Payroll & Financial Accounting Officer (SL7) – Permanent

About the role

The Payroll/Financial Accounting Officer (SL7) is responsible for managing payroll processes, budgeting, and financial reporting within the Corporate Centre in Klerksdorp. The role ensures accurate financial data capture, compliance with public sector legislation, and supports the institution’s financial controls.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor budget control, verify expenditures against budgets and identify variances.
• Prepare and reconcile bank statements, monthly expenditure reports and creditor reconciliations.
• Manage payroll data, review salary databases and ensure accurate tax deductions and IRP5/IT3(A) certificates.
• Support accounts control, correct errors in the BMS system and verify allocations/postings.
• Compile financial reports, assist with annual audit preparation and respond to audit queries.
• Oversee tax administration, process tax directives and manage employee tax deductions.
• Supervise staff, assess development needs and ensure performance agreements are completed.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) and a three‑year National Diploma in Financial Management (NQF Level 6).
• 2–3 years of experience in a financial management environment.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Knowledge of public service financial legislation (PFMA, DORA, PSA, PSR, PPPFA) and Treasury Regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with financial operating systems such as PERSAL, BAS and LOGIS.
• Strong computer skills for data capture, reporting and use of office equipment.
• Basic numeracy and ability to perform routine financial tasks accurately.
