Part-Time Senior Financial Controller

About the role

An established industrial supplier to automotive and mining is looking for a part-time Senior Financial Controller to report directly to the CEO. You will take full ownership of day-to-day finance, mitigate operational risk and streamline internal processes. The role is 24 hours per week, in-office Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 15:00, at the Paarl office.

Key responsibilities

• Cash flow and ledger oversight: manage accounts receivable and payable, keeping debtors and creditors under control to protect cash flow.
• Financial reporting and reconciliations: prepare profit and loss statements, monthly management accounts and periodic bank reconciliations.
• System and process optimization: evaluate and implement financial checks and balances and optimize workflows across transactions.
• Compliance and risk management: monitor VAT input and output compliance and identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
• Cost control: initiate cost-saving strategies and scrutinize operational expenses.
• Travel to the Johannesburg head office once a quarter to oversee the stock take.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (e.g. BCom Accounting or equivalent) or at least 15 years of hands-on accounting experience.
• Solid understanding of South African tax compliance, including input and output VAT and SARS e-Filing.
• Proven track record managing the general ledger, reconciliations and management accounts.
• Commercial acumen in supply chain, industrial or technical goods environments.
• A calm, practical and collaborative approach supporting an entrepreneurial CEO.

Required skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel (financial modelling, vlookups, pivot tables).
• Cloud or desktop accounting software such as Sage Pastel or an ERP system.
• SARS e-Filing proficiency.
