Packaging Machine Specialist

About the role

Rosslyn Brewery is looking for a Packaging Machine Specialist to maintain, repair and optimise plant equipment so that production stays available and product quality is protected at minimum cost. The role covers operational support, planned maintenance and routine maintenance, with standby and after-hours support.

Key responsibilities

• Operational support: coach, mentor and transfer knowledge of machine operation to shift teams, give expert advice when requested, and act as a functional expert in plant and zone problem solving
• Take part in regional and central office plant optimisation trials and support process artisans with machine fault finding and machine setup/restoration training
• Planned maintenance: take part in planning meetings, carry out work within the planned maintenance window, help colleagues, and take part in maintenance postmortems
• Routine maintenance: complete ATO cleaning, lubrication and inspection, call in extra resources when needed, report issues to the Maintenance Planner, and carry out condition monitoring where allocated
• Take part in Line Clean and Tag exercises

Required profile

• N6 Electrical / Instrumentation or National Diploma in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering
• Electrical/Instrumentation/Mechatronics trade test certificate
• 3 to 5 years of experience in an FMCG environment
• Ability to do standby and after-hours support, and to have reliable transport

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation engineering
• PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens and Allen-Bradley)
• Industrial communication protocols (Ethernet IP, Device Net, Profinet, Profibus, ASI bus, CAN bus)
• Problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys, fishbone, AB reports, SDCA and PDCA
• Ability to analyse graphical data, identify non-standard work and root causes, and select spares to negotiate with suppliers
