HVAC/Refrigeration Lead

About the role

Rohloff Group is looking for an experienced, results-driven HVAC and Refrigeration Lead. The role leads internal technicians and external service providers, drives preventative maintenance, manages complex equipment failures and capital projects, and supports new store developments and refurbishments. It is accountable for equipment uptime, maintenance costs, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of HVAC and refrigeration systems across all restaurants, resolving breakdowns quickly and running preventative maintenance programmes.
• Lead, coach and develop technicians and service providers, manage workloads and resources, run training, meetings and safety toolbox talks.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and refrigerant requirements, conduct inspections and audits, investigate incidents and keep accurate records.
• Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules, monitor asset condition and lifecycle, support asset replacement planning and CAPEX forecasting, and identify energy-efficiency improvements.
• Manage contractors and vendors, including SLA compliance, service quality and supplier relationships.
• Support new store openings, refurbishments and equipment replacements, overseeing installations, commissioning and handovers.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric and a valid driver's licence.
• Minimum 5 years' post-trade experience in HVAC and refrigeration maintenance.
• Proven supervisory or leadership experience managing technical teams.
• N4/N5 qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Refrigeration.
• Facilities management experience and experience in QSR, retail, restaurant, hospitality or food production environments.
• Project management qualification or experience.

Required skills

• Trade test qualification in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.
• Strong knowledge of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Taylor Ice Cream Machine certification or hands-on experience.
• Energy management experience.
