Operator in Training

About the role

The Trainee Operator will learn to safely and efficiently run production machinery at our Pretoria plant. Working under supervision, you will develop competency in equipment operation, quality control, documentation, and health & safety practices.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with preparation, start‑up, running, and shutdown of assigned machines.
• Load materials, unload finished products, and support downstream equipment such as wrappers, bundlers, and balers.
• Monitor product quality, report defects, and record production data as instructed.
• Perform basic machine adjustments once competency is achieved.
• Help during job changes, breakdowns, and cleaning activities.
• Participate actively in on‑the‑job training, complete competency sign‑offs, and follow SOPs.

Required profile

• 1–3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Minimum Grade 12 education; N2 or higher in mechanical engineering preferred.
• Reliable attendance, engagement in training, and willingness to ask questions.
• Commitment to health & safety policies and proper use of PPE.

Required skills

• Basic machine operation and start‑up/shutdown procedures.
• Ability to perform simple machine adjustments.
• Recording of production data and reporting of quality issues.
• Use of personal protective equipment and adherence to safety practices.
