Mid-Level Web Developer – Pretoria

About the role

BDM Media, a full-service marketing agency offering consulting, brand development, web development, digital marketing and more, is hiring a mid-level web developer in Pretoria. The developer manages end-to-end website projects, from initial briefing and planning through build, testing and deployment, balancing functionality, performance and design.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, develop and manage website projects from start to finish within agreed timelines.
• Build responsive, high-performing websites on WordPress, Shopify and other CMS platforms, customising templates, themes and plugins.
• Manage hosting environments, DNS setup, domain registration and website migrations.
• Collaborate with designers, copywriters and account managers, and liaise directly with clients when needed.
• Implement and maintain SEO best practices, keeping sites fast, optimised and secure.
• Manage project communication and milestones through ClickUp.
• Maintain sites, update content and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Integrate websites with APIs, CRMs and marketing tools such as Mailchimp, HubSpot, Meta and Google Ads.

Required profile

• 3 to 5 years of web development experience, with a proven track record of managing full projects.
• Experience delivering multiple website builds from scratch within scope and deadlines.
• Excellent communication and teamwork, strong project management and organisational skills, attention to detail and good design sense.
• Proactive, accountable and aligned with the company's values and culture.

Required skills

• Strong WordPress (custom builds and theme development); Shopify, Squarespace or Webflow advantageous.
• HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP and responsive design.
• Familiarity with MySQL, Git / GitHub and cPanel or similar hosting.
• Technical SEO, Google Analytics and Search Console; Google Tag Manager and GA4 setup.
• Website security, SSL and backup protocols, migration and 301 redirects, e-commerce integrations and conversion tracking.
