Member of Audit Committee – Municipal Governance Role

About the role

The Mopani District Municipality invites suitably qualified professionals to serve as members of its Audit Committee. This advisory body supports the Municipal Council, Political Office Bearers, the Accounting Officer and senior management on governance and financial matters.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advice on internal audit, risk management, performance management and project management.
• Review internal financial controls, accounting policies, and the adequacy, reliability and accuracy of financial reporting.
• Ensure compliance with the Local Government Municipal Finance Management Act, the Annual Division of Revenue Act and other relevant legislation.
• Contribute to effective governance through oversight of financial statements and related processes.

Required profile

• Qualifications such as CIA, CA(SA), MBA, MCom, MCompt, postgraduate studies in ICT or Civil Engineering, or a legal qualification (Attorney/Advocate).
• Demonstrated technical expertise in information technology, auditing, accounting, financial management, project or performance management, and legal matters.
• Thorough knowledge of legislation affecting local government and an understanding of local government issues and national development priorities.
• Relevant experience in the local government sector, audit, finance, performance management, project management or IT.
