Mechanical Fitter / Senior Pump Engineer

About the role

The successful candidate will lead the precision refurbishment, maintenance and overhaul of high‑energy centrifugal pumps and associated rotating equipment in a demanding industrial/petrochemical workshop environment. This role requires deep technical expertise with API 610 pump standards and API 682 mechanical seal configurations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform full diagnostic strip‑downs, geometric inspections, fault‑finding and complete rebuilds of multi‑stage, split‑case and overhung centrifugal pumps.
• Apply API 610 standards, ISO H6/k5 fits, wear‑ring clearances and shaft run‑out limits during engineering work.
• Measure and document component dimensions using micrometers, vernier calipers and dial test indicators.
• Install, troubleshoot and refurbish API 682 cartridge‑type mechanical seals (Arrangements 1‑3) and related seal piping, buffer/barrier fluid systems, heat exchangers and accumulator vessels.
• Conduct laser alignments of pump‑to‑driver packages on‑site and in‑shop, and oversee dynamic balancing of impellers and rotor assemblies to strict ISO quality grades.
• Prepare engineering strip‑and‑quote sheets, failure‑analysis dossiers and final overhaul validation reports.

Required profile

• Qualified Mechanical Fitter with a recognized Section 13/Red Seal trade certificate.
• Senior‑level, hands‑on experience with high‑spec industrial or heavy rotating centrifugal pumps.
• Proven ability to interpret and work to API 610 pump designs and API 682 sealing configurations.
• Resident of, or able to commute daily to, Roodepoort.
