Mechanical Fire Engineer – Building Services

About the role

Our client, a well‑established mechanical and electrical consulting engineering practice, is looking for an experienced Mechanical Fire Engineer to join their building services team. The role offers the chance to specialise in fire engineering design across a varied portfolio of offices, retail, hospitality, healthcare, residential, data‑centre and warehouse projects.

Key responsibilities

• Manage projects through Stages 1–6, from concept to detailed design, tender and close‑out.
• Conduct fire risk analyses and develop rational fire designs.
• Design active and passive fire‑protection systems in line with NFPA, BS, SANS and ASIB codes.
• Perform engineering calculations for automatic sprinklers, smoke detection, evacuation, smoke ventilation, hydraulic and gas‑suppression systems.
• Plan, organise and control project delivery from a technical perspective.
• Prepare and present technical, financial and tender documentation.

Required profile

• B.Tech/BSc/BEng (Mechanical) degree.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng).
• Proven experience in fire‑engineering design for building services.
