Architectural Technologist

About the role

The Architectural Technologist will translate approved design intent into technically resolved, code‑compliant and buildable documentation. Reporting to the Manager of Architecture, the role supports project delivery through design development, specification, detailing, site inspections and contract administration.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate architectural design concepts, drawings, specifications, schedules and technical documentation for approval, tender and construction phases.
• Integrate architectural information with structural, civil, mechanical, electrical and other specialist inputs to achieve cohesive project outcomes.
• Conduct site inspections and technical reviews to verify construction aligns with approved documents and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare compliant submission packages for clients, authorities and internal governance, and support tender and contract administration processes.
• Maintain auditable records of drawings, approvals, technical decisions and site instructions, supporting quality reviews and audits.

Required profile

• Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Technology or Architecture.
• Registration with the South African professional council as a Candidate or Professional Architectural Technologist (preferred).
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in architectural documentation, design development and project coordination.
• Demonstrated experience preparing municipal submission drawings, tender documentation and construction drawings.
• Working knowledge of South African legislation, National Building Regulations, SANS requirements and quality management systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD and BIM platforms.
• Competence with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and project collaboration tools.
